Tools Required:
Flat head Screwdriver
22mm socket
Others:
Steering wheel (About £10 from scrap yard, unless you buy an aftermarket steering wheel which could set you back
from £45 To £250, and a steering wheel boss costs roughly £30+)
As you can see, the original steering wheel doesn't look nice at all, so I replaced it so to begin, get a small
flat head screwdriver and gently pop the centre badge off. Make sure you disconnect the centre badge wires.
Then, if you look inside, you will notice there is a security washer (Washer with lipped sides to stop the nut undoing).
You need to flatten this out to undo the nut. The best way to do this is to get a large screwdriver and force it between
the nut and lip. Once the washer is flat undo the centre nut (22mm).
Before you attempt to remove the steering wheel, make sure your wheels are aiming straight, or when you pull away and
your wheel is not centre, it'll drive you mad. Best bet is to drive 5 metres up the road before doing it so the wheels can
self centre theirself.
Carefully, pull at the steering wheel (So you dont smash your face in when it flys off., pulling from left to right,
then top to bottom. The steering wheel should then pop off. If it doesnt try spraying some WD40 on it (Available at Halfords
etc). After this it should just pop off.
When putting the new steering wheel on, make sure you put it on straight. If it wont go on completely straight put it
to the nearest spline, drive it a couple of metres to see. If its off a tooth, it will pop straight off for refitment. If
its straight, tighten the nut up and bend the lips out to lock the nut.
Wire up the centre cap and push it in. It should just pop into place. Make sure that the horn works. Job done.
